Project Eat More Chocolot

Project Eat More Chocolot, 2005, book and candy bars, 6” x 9” book, mixed materials, edible ink and wafer

Project Eat More Chocolot is a personal experiment conducted to provide evidence to the age-old theory that eating chocolate creates acne. In this study, I used my face as a testing ground to provide documentation over the course of one week of excessive binging of chocolate. The binging resulted in an acne-covered face that appears on each portion of my handmade candy bar named Chocolot. A second version of this project was completed when I ate the first handmade candy bar, thus eating images of my acne covered face repeatedly. The result was more acne. Documentation of the project is displayed as a hand-bound weekly planner for the project.

The purse is made of my empty antidepressant pill shells collected daily. The remaining shells contain chocolate words from different media sources that give simple solutions to happiness. A giant reference page with all of the sources is displayed behind the purse.

Manhands

Manhands, 2004, 22” x 9” x 4.5”, child’s size 2, knit Walmart bags

The process of knitting plastic is very painful and repetitive. The labor behind the work correlates with the often cruel nature of bad habits.

Take My Breath Away Kit

Take My Breath Away Kit, 2005, mixed media

This kit was displayed in a storefront like a new product for sale. I invited strangers in for the premier of the new Take My Breath Away Kit. Everyone was invited to have a prom photo taken and sent to him or her via email. Each participant was then encouraged to fill out an anonymous survey about the new product. The surveys were then displayed in the storefront window for everyone to read.
